Air Release Valves and Air/Vacuum Valves are essential components to prevent air pocket buildup in the pipeline. Without them, pipeline capacity can be reduced 5-10% or more.

Carotek can assist with your air release valve selection and help you determine air release valve sizing, where to put air release valves and installation requirements. As your factory-trained trained DeZURIK valves distributors, Carotek can also assist with DeZURIK air release valve manuals, parts lists, and specifications. Contact Carotek when you need DeZURIK air release valve installation and troubleshooting assistance.

Where Are Air Release Valves Used?

Air quick release valves are a critical piece of equipment on process systems. Air pockets reduce pipeline capacity and increase the amount of energy required to pump fluids. When air is present in a hydraulic pipeline, flows are erratic, unpredictable and have high head losses. An Air Release Valve on pipeline high points is used to eliminate small air pockets that form at the high points of a pipeline and restrict flow.

How Does Unwanted Air Enter a Piping System?

Air can enter a piping system in a number of ways:

  • When the pipeline is initially filled
  • At a pump inlet if the liquid level falls below the inlet elevation
  • Released from solution when pressure is reduced in the pipeline
  • Gas created from digested sewage
  • Through the packing, seals and flanged joints
  • During pump vortexing

Although air (or gas) inevitably accumulates within the piping system, Air Release Valves on pipeline high points can minimize the volume.

DeZURIK Air Release Valves

The DeZURIK air release valve catalogue includes a number of municipal and industrial check valve types that are designed for different applications. The most popular air valve is the APCO 55.

Air/Vacuum Valves

Air/Vacuum Valves expel or admit large quantities of air to protect pipelines from damage. Air/Vacuum Valves expel air when filling the pipeline and admit air to relieve a vacuum when draining the pipeline.

DeZURIK manufactures two main styles of Air Release & Air/Vacuum Valves: ARV Clean Water Air Release Valves and ASR Sewage Air Release Valves.

Combination Air Valves

In some cases, the functions of both an Air/Vacuum Valve and an Air Release Valve are needed to vent and protect a pipeline. In those instances, Combination Air Valves, in either single to dual body types, are typically installed on all high points of the system.

DeZURIK manufactures four main styles of Combination Air Valves: ASU and AVC Single Body Combination Air Valves, AVV Dual Body Combination Air Valves, and ASC Single Body Sewage Combination Air Valves.

Vacuum Relief/Air Inlet Valves

When system pressure is positive, Vacuum Relief/Air Inlet Valves are closed. However, if the system pressure becomes negative, the Vacuum Relief/Air Inlet Valve will immediately admit air into the system and prevent a vacuum, and will close air tight when system pressure returns to positive.

Surge Check Air Valves

In installations where the operating conditions cause a regular air valve to slam open and/or closed, Surge Check Air Valves prevent critical shock conditions. These valves prevent water hammer by throttling orifices in the disc to reduce the rate of flow of water into the air valve.

Double Acting Throttling Device

A Double Acting Air Throttling Device can be combined with Air/Vacuum Valves to efficiently discharge air from deep well pump columns. The Double Acting Air Throttling Device is fitted on the discharge orifice of the Air/Vacuum Valve, and is suitable even for pipelines containing dirty fluids.
