Grundfos Pumps in Industrial Washdown & Cleaning
Introduction
Pumps are widely used throughout industry in washing and cleaning – in food and beverage production, chemical production, energy, and general industry. Grundfos is known for manufacturing one of the most extensive pump portfolios to meet the challenges of these process and industrial applications.
Pump Challenges in Industrial Wash and Clean Processes
Wash and clean processes involve some of the most demanding pumping conditions: aggressive detergents, fluctuating demand, high pressures and high temperatures. In the food processing industry, for example, high - pressure pumping is a requirement for wash and clean. Challenging requirements for Wash & Clean pump systems can include:
- confined installation space limiting the physical size of the pump
- damp or wet location due to wash down
- ambient temperature varying between cold and warm over an operating cycle
- pumps operated for an hour a day and left on standby for the rest of the time
- shifting demand during cleaning cycle shift from full flow and no flow, and at various discharge pressure s
- cold or hot water as pumped liquid
- need to combine water with disinfectant, detergent and other chemicals
- dosing pumps, ejectors, compressors and air - injectors are integrated as parts of the installation
Other wash and clean applications include part washers and box washers that are found in almost all types of manufacturing. These pumps usually operate at constant pressure or constant flow, either as single pumps or in parallel - coupled multi pump systems. A VFD may not be necessary.
The complete pumping solution must be designed to support the requirement to clean efficiently and completely, with a pump that adjusts quickly and accurately to changing demands under challenging conditions.
Pumps for Wash and Clean
Grundfos washdown pump solutions include booster, end suction, inline multistage, horizontal split case, immersible, dosing, and vertical pumps – as well as complete pumping systems.
Grundfos compact sized pumps can deliver high pressures required for compact installations. In some cases, operating the pumps over synchronous speed with an E - motor can be a good solution, allowing a smaller pump to be used.
Sturdy Grundfos motors and drives are designed for difficult environment s that often include w et, humid and high temperatures . For severe cold conditions, an integrated standstill motor heater is available.
Powerful and compact Grundfos pumps deliver high energy efficiency, reliable durability, and simple, low - cost maintenance.
Grundfos Booster Pumps

Grundfos Series Hydro MPC
The Grundfos Hydro MPC pressure boosting system helps maintain constant pressure in wash and clean operations to meet varying demand on the water supply. They also support large flow/continuous load conditions. With multiple parallel connected pumps, advanced controllers and all necessary fittings, these booster sets offer advanced and energy efficient boosting of clean water.
In addition, the Hydro HP high - pressure washdown systems addresses the vital wash and clean process in food processing plants, with efficient operation and low maintenance.

Grundfos End Suction Pumps

Grundfos Series NB, NBE, NBS, NBSE , NK , CM, CME
Wash and clean applications often employ Grundfos end suction pumps . These centrifugal pumps usually feature a n impeller , and suction comes in from one side of the unit and water is discharged from the top.
Grundfos Inline Multistage Pumps

Grundfos Series CR, CRE, CRI, CRIE, CRN, CRNE, CRT, CRTE, CRNE - HS, CRN - SF
Grundfos inline multi stage pumps are ideal for wash and clean installations that require a high head. The modular design of the CR pump range allows adaptability for a broad range of applications. The standard CR range can operate with 25 bar system pressure, and the HS and SF range can handle 50 bar. The small CRE3 -9 pump often is customized for high speed mounted with an e - motor to deliver the performance of a larger pumps. Optional E - motors are equipped with a function that reduces speed of rotation when nominal power is exceeded to avoid overloading the motor . Contact Carotek for assistance to make sure not to exceed the maximum pressure of the pump.
Grundfos Horizontal Split Case Pumps

Grundfos Series KP
The Grundfos KP pump, a single - stage, between bearings, split case pump with max head 263 ft, is often specified for wash and clean.
Grundfos Immersible Pumps

Grundfos Series MTR, MTA, MTH, MTHE, MTR, MTRE, MTC , SPK
Grundfos immersible pumps are ideal for any industrial washing that requires compact installation, and also for applications with alkaline media .

Grundfos Series DDA, DDE, DME , DTS, DSS
Grundfos dosing pumps, designed for either digital or mechanical control, offer reliability, durability, and accuracy for wash and clean applications. Digital dosing pumps allow smooth, continuous dosing and efficient processes.
Dosing tank stations are designed for storing and dosing liquid chemicals in a precise, controlled way. Complete dosing skid systems are available to offer integrated controls to accurately meter liquid chemicals for wash and clean.
Grundfos Vertical Pumps

Grundfos Series KPV, KPVS
KPV is a vertical, single - stage, between bearings, split case pump. KPVS is a split coupled vertically mounted split case pump that requires no alignment. Both vertical pump designs minimize the mechanical space footprint.
