SUMMARY

Performs a variety of duties to provide outstanding service to our customers and support to the outside sales staff.  Assists customers by answering questions or resolving complex problems related to the spare or replacement products, new equipment, packages or systems.  Instrumental in selling corporate products to industrial and commercial establishments over the telephone or through web-generated orders.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Answers telephone calls or responds to customer correspondence regarding technical questions or complaints on products or systems;
  • Engages in technical discussions to obtains applicable information to identify correct product needed and advises customer on substitution or modification of product when replacement is necessary;
  • Conducts intensive research to identify products from manuals, computer databases, engineering drawings or other resources to determine product needed for replacement;
  • Selects and specifies products based on customer application and design prerequisites, including identifying custom requirements and communicating details with Engineering;
  • Confers and corresponds with service technicians, service managers or manufacturers to resolve unusual or complex technical problems or refers highly complex problems to Applications Specialist or Manager;
  • Supplies detailed product quotations by computing price, discount and shipping charges as required and within company guidelines;
  • Informs customer of pricing, back orders, delivery, delayed shipments and/or any other problems related to the order process and provides tracking information;
  • Obtains purchase order number and/or credit card information from customer;
  • Enters all pertinent data obtained from faxes, e-mails, telephone or other requests into the computer system to prepare sales order for Shipping Department to fill customer orders from stock and/or Accounting to process invoicing;
  • Maintains computer files and suspense for follow-up action;
  • Assists customers with urgent back orders;
  • Checks credit status of customer and advises customer if account has been placed on hold;
  • Checks shipping orders to ensure they are accurate with regards to quantity shipped, ship to address, etc.;
  • Enters new customer data and other sales data into computer database;
  • Works with Outside Sales Representatives to keep account activities and literature up-to-date;
  • Confers with Accounting to research and resolve invoicing or credit discrepancies;
  • Attends sales meeting or educational activities to stay up-to-date on the latest technical developments with the products;
  • Communicates with customers, co-workers, management and others in a professional and courteous manner;
  • Generates and analyzes weekly stock reorder reports and orders necessary inventory;
  • Conforms to all safety and general housekeeping rules and uses appropriate safety equipment, if any.

 Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment where there is ambient room temperature and lighting as typically found. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.  The noise level is usually moderate.

The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing and shipping/receiving areas where, under certain areas, the noise level is high.

Occasional travel for product training classes is expected, which may require overnight stays and weekends.  Employee must have the ability to transport self to the site as required. If using own motor vehicle, must possess a valid state driver’s license, acceptable driving record and proof of insurance that meets the minimum standards of the state.

Required Education and Experience

  • Associate’s Degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or two to four years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Working knowledge of electrical, pneumatics, mechanical assemblies, gauges, valves, instrumentation, steam traps and/or a very strong mechanical aptitude required.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical drawings and electrical schematics and technical procedures, write reports and general business correspondence. 
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, commissions, proportions and percentages and the ability to convert standard measurement to metric.
  • Ability to effectively manage time in a fast-paced environment, organize and manage multiple priorities; excellent interpersonal and communication skills and enjoy working with a variety of people.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, etc.), AS400 database.
