SUMMARY

Commissions, calibrates, troubleshoots and repairs a variety of equipment in processes on-site for industrial, commercial, pharmaceutical and municipal customers. All of the following duties shall be performed in a timely manner and with minimum interruption to customer’s processes.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Commissions, calibrates, troubleshoots and repairs a variety of flow meters, pressure transmitters, level transmitters, temperature transmitters, chart recorders, controllers and valves to meet customer’s requirements.
  • Visually inspects, tests and recommends changes to insure required installation meets manufactures’ standards for operation.
  • Observes processes, apply and develop tests and procedures to detect proper or malfunctioning operation of equipment, prepare reports and discuss findings with customer or sales representative, make changes or adjustments to improve operation or offer a course of action to resolve problems.
  • Dismantles defective instrumentation and equipment and replace with new or repaired parts per the manufactures’ procedures.
  • Assembles, repairs and/or replaces related instrumentation and associated equipment.
  • Directs installers on the proper placement of equipment according to drawings and equipment manufactures’ recommendation.
  • Advises customer of proper installation requirements.
  • Confers with other Field Service Technicians, manufactures representatives and customers in person and/or over the telephone to diagnose instrumentation and equipment malfunctions and provide technical solutions to resolve complex instrumentation and equipment requirements.
  • Trains customer's representative(s) on the proper use, troubleshooting and maintenance of instrumentation and equipment and prepare related materials for spare parts.
  • Analyzes reports of technical issues to determine trends that affect future design, production, service and maintenance procedures and provide recommendations to management.
  • Prepares service handbooks and bulletins based on field investigations, engineering changes and overall knowledge of the product.
  • Prepares various reports to include service trips, expenses, calibration, troubleshooting, or other reports requested by management.
  • Requisitions parts, tools and materials as needed through submission of completed Field Requisition Form.
  • Communicates with co-workers, management, customers and others in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Conforms with all safety rules and uses appropriate safety equipment, if any.
  • Maintains clean and organized work area.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and risk of electrical shock.  The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; and extreme heat.  The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  This position regularly requires overtime hours and weekend work as job duties demand.

Must be available for assignment on short notice.   

Travel

Travel is up to 75% of the time and primarily local during the business day, although occasional travel is expected, which may require overnight stays and weekends. Ability to transport self to various facility sites as required. Company vehicle is provided.  Must possess a valid state driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Required Education and Experience

Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from a technical school; or four plus years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Proficient with programmable logic controls, input/output, pneumatics, hydraulics, sensors, AC/DC, instrumentation, etc.

Working knowledge of Word, Excel, networking, database management and Microsoft Windows components.

Preferred Education and Experience

Ability to work with mathematical concepts and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.  Ability to convert standard measurement to metric, calculate measurements of gas, temperature, balance air or water flow, etc.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

ISO 17025 Certification preferred but not required.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Must be authorized to work in the United States without restriction for an indefinite period of time.

SUMMARY

Plans, lays-out and fabricates full scale drawings of all types of piping systems, supports and related equipment in accordance with all applicable plans, detailed drawings, specifications, codes and industry standards.

  • Plans, lays-out and assembles all types of piping systems, supports and related equipment, in accordance with those plans and specifications.
  • Calculates dimensions, degrees, angles and length for fittings and pipe.
  • Understands pipe sizes, types and related materials, such as supports and hangers, according to specifications.
  • Measures and marks pipes for cutting to specifications using tools such as saws, cutting torches and benders.
  • Assembles and secures pipes, tubes, couplings, fittings and related equipment (automatic controls, valves, tanks, heat exchangers, etc.) according to specifications.
  • Cuts and bores holes in structures, prior to pipe installation, using hand and power tools.
  • Utilizes all pipe fitting techniques and methods for different types of piping systems, pipe fittings and threaded fittings including butt weld and socket weld.
  • Plumbs and squares fittings.
  • Prepares and cleans assembly for welding.
  • Confers with Piping Designer(s) to define and solve manufacturing/design issues.
  • Operates overhead crane, forklift, lift trucks or hand trucks to move skid and/or related parts to proper work area.
  • Maintains clean and organized work area ensuring aisles, doorways, fire extinguishers, breaker boxes, etc. are clear from debris and equipment.
  • Communicates with co-workers, management, customers and others in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Conforms to all safety rules and uses appropriate safety equipment, if any.

SUMMARY

Applies appropriate welding processes to join, surface, fabricate or repair parts of metal or other weldable materials as specified by work orders, blueprints, sketches, charts or other forms of instructions.  May lay out and mark weld points on parts or subassemblies using rule, square, scribe or templates.  May position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools.  May inspect completed work for conformance to specifications.

  • Sets up components for welding according to specifications (i.e. cuts material with power saw to match measurement)
  • Operates shop equipment and tools (i.e. band-saw, drills, grinders, etc.) to prepare the parts that must be welded.
  • Operates appropriate equipment to put together mechanical structures or parts with a great deal of precision.
  • Aligns components using calipers, rulers, etc. and clamps pieces.
  • Welds components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead).
  • Inspects welded surfaces and structures to discover flaws, removes bad welds and takes other  corrective action, if necessary.
  • Maintains equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
  • Operates overhead crane, forklift, lift trucks or hand trucks to move skid and/or related parts to proper work area.
  • Maintains clean and organized work area ensuring aisles, doorways, fire extinguishers, breaker boxes, etc. are clear from debris and equipment.
